Are you a fan of old school horror and old school gaming? Then you’re in luck! Boss Team Games recently released a fun throwback to 16-bit sidescrollers called RetroRealms Double Feature. You play as horror icons, battling across levels with characters from both Halloween and Ash vs Evil Dead.
With Halloween, you play as silent killer Michael Myers, freed by the master of the Dark Realm to be its agent of chaos. The Dark Realm also figures into Ash vs Evil Dead, but in this case, you’re playing as reluctant hero Ash, attempting to recover the stolen Necronomicon. There are also downloadable characters with their own playstyles you can purchase to add to either game: Laurie Strode from Halloween, and Kelly Maxwell from Ash vs Evil Dead.
I got a chance to try out RetroRealms Double Feature, and as a fan of both of these horror franchises as well as of retro gaming, I was definitely not disappointed. Well, let me take that back… I was disappointed, but just in how rusty my platforming skills were! The RetroRealms games will certainly challenge you with hoards of enemies, and jumps that require precision timing. Each of the two games has 10 levels, and I was struggling to complete even one. However, that has a lot more to do with my meager sidescroller skills, rather than the quality of the games.
RetroRealms Double Feature costs $49.99 for both games, and is available to purchase digitally on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and on Steam for PC. You can also purchase a physical copy on Amazon, but your copy won’t arrive until after Halloween (in case you were looking for some horror gaming for that night).
