The force has always been strong with LEGO, and the latest Star Wars set added to the collection offers features that could lead to skills in droid repair (unfortunately, no droidspeak mode is currently available). The new LEGO Star Wars BOOST Droid Commander set includes three of the famous droids from the franchise: R2-D2, the Gonk droid, and the Mouse droid. Each of the droids features LEGO BOOST coding technology and a set of missions that take advantage of that droid’s specific skills—who wouldn’t want to program R2-D2 for tasks like Plot a Course, Receive and Decode an Incoming Message, or Assisting Flying an X-wing?

The new set is the first time that the LEGO BOOST drag-and-drop coding technology has been used in a licensed product and, even more exciting, it has been overhauled to match the LEGO Star Wars galaxy. The new interface is an all-new way to build, code, and play with the droids, and create their own Star Wars stories and battlegrounds with inspiration from more than 40 interactive missions.

The set will include a color and distance sensor, an interactive motor, and the Bluetooth-controlled Move Hub along with 1,177 pieces—enough to build all three droids. Through the free LEGO BOOST Star Wars app (available for iOS, Android, and Fire smart devices) the droids will each express their own personalities, showcase skills, and feature real Star Wars sounds and music.

We’ve been fueling the imagination of young Padawans and Jedi Masters for twenty years and wanted to take the Force to a new level. By introducing LEGO BOOST and creative coding into the LEGO Star Wars galaxy, kids now have the chance to develop essential 21st century skills while immersing themselves in the amazing world of Droid Commanders. Our children are the problem solvers of tomorrow and STEAM skills will be essential to help them conquer the challenges of the future.
