Ray: Jeremy Adams has set up a ton in the oversized one-shot that precedes this issue, and it all starts to pay off here with a really fun issue that kicks off a new arc with some surprising guest-stars. Carol Ferris is settling into her new role as a Justice League member, and she and Hal get a brief reunion – but he’s headed off for a new space mission to track down the wild energy that’s coming from the Fractured Spectrum, as well as trying to stop Carol’s ex-fiancee Nathan before he’s completely consumed by the Sorrow energy. Carol can’t join him, choosing to continue her training on Earth instead – and that means Hal will need allies. I’m happy to see Kyle Rayner get a starring role for the first time in a while, as he’s tasked with collecting allies for their space mission. The first is Odyssey the Time Bandit, a young cosmic thief who seems like she’s going to be a very fun antihero. The other…is more unexpected.

I’ve always wondered if Adams was teed up to do a Teen Titans or Young Justice series, as well as he writes young characters. Not yet – but he is going to be writing the Conner Kent Superboy, who makes his debut swimming in an Australian hot spring. This is great Superboy characterization, just the right mix of heroic and chaotic. These two, plus Hal and Kyle, seem like they’ll make a very fun crew for the mission. I was equally excited by the reveal of the main villain of this arc – Starbreaker, the cosmic villain who dates back to the 1990s and is now seeking to create his own Corps out of the wild energy. Nathan is clearly a pawn who is in way over his head, but his pain and rage is making him a serious threat. There’s a new Green Lantern Corps title coming, but the scope of this title already feels like it’s spanning the entire spectrum of this franchise.
